Bled on a one-day trip

November, 25 2020 ( Updated June, 11 2021)

At the foot of the Julian Alps, along a lake of glacial origin, stands Bled, a Slovenian resort appreciated by tourists from all over the world, about 50 km from the capital, Ljubljana.

Whatever be the season of your visit, Bled will always leave you breathless. Immersed in a surreal landscape, as if in a fairy tale from another time, the town is an unmissable destination even in the hottest season. But during the winter season, the snow gives Bled its spectacular appearance.

Especially during the holiday season, Bled is a popular destination for its Christmas markets, with local crafts, an ice rink and much more.

What to see in a day in Bled?

Surely the island of Bled is the most fascinating attraction that enchants at first sight. Here you can take several romantic walks. The islet is located right in the center of the lake and brings with it many ancient legends, one of which concerns the Church of Santa Maria Assunta which stands right on the island. The ancient bell tower is detached from the church and houses a very fascinating gear clock. Another legend depicts the "wish bell" that is located inside the church and which dates back to 1534 as the protagonist: it is said that whoever rings it will have a wish come true.

An obligatory stop is the medieval castle of Bled. At first, there was only a tower protected by the walls but in 1011 AD, the castle was built instead. Currently, the Bled Castle is used for various kinds of ceremonies, such as weddings; it is an exhibition space, but also a place for events particularly those with a medieval theme. Don't forget to admire the view from the terraces of the location.

Obviously, you should not miss Lake Bled with a path of about 6 km that runs along with it. In summers, you can dive and sunbathe while in winters, you can enjoy the view. If time permits, you can rent a typical local rowing boat, the Pletna or take a motorboat that reaches the island of Bled.

The last attraction that we want to recommend is all to be tasted. This is the typical Bled millefeuille with cream - Kremna Rezina. It should be tasted in the café of the Hotel Park which prepares the original recipe of the dessert.
